The poultry-farming sector

In 2009, the Label Rouge poultry sector represented:

  • 25 quality groups (QGs) scattered around various different regions of France,
  • around 6000 poultry farms producing meat and eggs,
  • around 250 companies (hatcheries, feed manufacturers, slaughterhouses and processing plants).

Production of Label Rouge eggs

Representing 11 quality groups and 14 specifications, the Label Rouge egg-production sector fastly increased over the last few years.
In 2009, 1,700,000 layer hens produced around 360 million Label Rouge eggs.

Production of Label Rouge poultry

103 million Label Rouge traditional free range fowls were produced in 2009 by 25 quality groups.

Household purchase of Label Rouge poultry

In 2007, Label Rouge traditional poultry accounted for: (source: TNS Worldpanel):

  • 62% of the whole chicken purchased in France
  • 33% of the chickens purchased in France as a whole, whatever the type.

Exports of Label Rouge traditional chicken

Around 4,800 tons of Label Rouge traditional free range chicken were sold for exports in 2009. The main importators country are Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
