Key numbers of the sector

The poultry-farming sector

In 2007, the Label Rouge poultry sector represented:

  • 25 quality groups (QGs) scattered around various different regions of France,
  • around 6000 poultry farms producing meat and eggs,
  • around 250 companies (hatcheries, feed manufacturers, slaughterhouses and processing plants).

Production of Label Rouge eggs

With 14 specifications approved for 11 quality groups, the Label Rouge egg-production sector has developed rapidly over the last few years.
In 2007, the production sector comprised around 1,737,000 hens who laid 325 million Label Rouge eggs.

Production of Label Rouge traditional poultry

With around 300 specifications approved for 22 quality groups, in 2007 the sector produced almost 106,5 million Label Rouge fowl.

Household purchase of Label Rouge poultry

In 2007, Label Rouge traditional poultry accounted for: (source: TNS Worldpanel):

  • 62% of the whole chicken purchased in France
  • 33% of the chickens purchased in France as a whole, whatever the type.

Exports of Label Rouge traditional chicken

Around 4,630 tons of Label Rouge traditional chicken were sold for exports (to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, etc...) in 2007, that is to say around 20% more than in 2006.
